Overview

Mayo Clinic offers the 24-month Clinical Informatics Fellowship in Rochester, Minnesota, to prepare physicians for leadership roles in the operation of clinical institutions, particularly the role of chief medical informatics officer.

The mission of the Clinical Informatics Fellowship is to train the world's most skilled and respected clinical informatics experts by:

This fellowship builds on the leading role that Mayo Clinic has played in the field of clinical information management since Dr. Henry S. Plummer invented the modern medical record and retrieval system in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1907. Since then, Mayo Clinic has continued to invest in information management and has one of the largest self-contained information technology support systems of any health care enterprise in the world.

Accreditation

Clinical informatics is a new clinical subspecialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties in 2011. The Clinical Informatics Fellowship was provided with initial accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Certification

After successfully completing the program, you will be eligible to take the subspecialty examination in clinical informatics offered by the American Board of Pathology.

Program history

The Clinical Informatics Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, began in 2018. We anticipate that we will recruit one fellow to this program annually.

The fellowship may be completed in conjunction with another pathology subspecialty fellowship.
